Should a DM play a character in his own game?

Basically what the title says. Do you think the DM should be able to play a character in his own setting?

I like taking inspiration from older editions of d&d, but it is sometimes difficult to adapt old spells, monsters, character options, etc for 5th edition. How would one go about adapting old content for a campaign?

History of familiars

As a new dm I'm interested in the history of familiars in 5e since that's the only version I'm familiar (harhar) with. I've watched all your running the game videos so far and it seems most of yours and even other peoples opinions on familiars is...

Snacks! Pop! What do you like to bring to the game?

Maybe a video on the IRL aspect of running the game - everyone gets together to see where we last left our heroes, but what's good etiquette for snacks and stuff like that? :)

The Nilbog

It is what it says. A video on your wild imagination, set loose on THE MOST interesting Goblin ever, found in the pages of previous editions, and most recently, Volo’s Guide to Monsters.

Make combat more interesting with descriptions

To spice up combat, think of each attack as a flurry of different attacks, which result in the hp damage dealt. One attack is not just a single strike, but a series of attacks, some that fail, and some that connect. Then, to liven up the combat,...

Review about OVA system

I know that it's an "unconventional" system but I'd love to see a Matt's review about. All the best.

What are good Test Cases?

This question might have been answered in RtG #48 Dice Math, but I was wondering if there were particular test cases/test monsters/test scenarios that DMs should use. Like if a goblin is a good judge of typical level 1 enemies, and a wraith is a...

How to run a stealth or espionage session?

How might you go about setting up an encounter where the goal is to sneak and steal/destroy an item(s) without being noticed, but is still tense and cool but doesn't fail as soon as the PCs roll low? I still want there to be risk, but there's...

How to generate Magic Items

I've been confused on 3rd/Pathfinder method to create magic items, so figured I'd suggest a video not only on how to create them, but how to create specific ones that could help the party without making it seem like you're making them specifically...

How to run chases

Specifically DND, but plenty of systems have different rules and ideas for what a chase should be, and googling provided plenty of house rules. Interested in your take on how to run chases that engage your players.

Reading and Writing is boring, do you have to do it to DM?

DnD is fun to play but long and tedious to read. There's no DnD audio books to my knowledge and prep means creating notes. For someone who rarely finds any joy in reading and only writes because there isn't always a way to talk to someone at the...

How to use weather effectively

Itd be neat to have variation in weather other than "well its raining, this is the only time ill bring this up" because just sunny or cloudy is a little stale
